Ondo Kingdom came alive on Saturday as the DestinationOndo team held the first ever Asun Carnival in celebration of the heritage of the Ondo people. The Asun delicacy which has been the cultural heritage of the Ondo people was the focus of the event.The Visioner of the Asun Carnival 2021 and the President of La CampagneTropicana Beach Resort, Otunba Wanle Akinboboye led other dignitaries to grace the event which was described as being largely successful.
The event kicked off with a football Competition which featured Yaba and Odojomu Streets.
The highpoints of the event are the Kolokun Competition, Alasun competition, the dancing competition and the music competition while the best of African music from the Atunda band and many other local artistes was on display.
Winners of the Kolokun Competition went home with their games which are the goats caught during the game while others won various cash prizes.
In a statement by the Director of digital media, DestinationOndo Omo’ba Segun Adesemoye, the primary focus is built around the acronym ‘HURP’ which means to engender Hope through Unity for cultural Rebirth for Prosperity.
Adesemoye further stated that preparations has begun for Asun Carnival 2022 which will feature Gbondo’mo (inter street cleaning competition) with a cash prize of 1millon Naira, Inter street football competition with a cash prize of 1million Naira among others.
The Osemawe of Ondo Kingdom was ably represented by his Chiefs, the Chairman of Ondo West Local Government, his deputy as well as the executive and legislative arm of the Local Government, Bobaselu of Odigbo land, Chief Akindele Omole, representatives of the Oba of Lagos, former member of the Ondo State house of Assembly, Hon Ade Adeniyi, Media personality and youth coach, Jeffrey Olu Abidoye, veteran nollywood actor, Kunle Coker, youth leaders, security officers, members of the press were among dignitaries that witnessed the occasion.
